Eagles Given 'Unfair' And Unsurprising Grades For Tackle Duo
Eagles Given 'Unfair' And Unsurprising Grades For Tackle Duo originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Having an elite offensive tackle on a roster can transform an offense. Having two elite stars on either side of the line seems - to an opponent, anyway - almost unfair. Advertisement But that, much to the chagrin of other NFL teams, is what the Philadelphia Eagles can unharness upfront. Left tackle Jordan Mailata and right tackle Lane Johnson have each become among the best players in their position group. They also have garnered the respect around the league. And in ESPN's latest series announcement, the Eagles' tackle duo is shown just how respected it is. Writer Jeremy Fowler detailed his polling results on the best offensive tackles this weekend with Johnson coming in as the third best player, and Mailata coming in at fifth. Two Eagles players, and both in the top-five for their respective positions. ... almost unfair. Advertisement Of course, none of this is surprising. Philadelphia has been able to build itself into one of the best teams in the league - as Super Bowl champs, the best team in the league in 2025 - due in large part to their offensive line. Johnson has been a stalwart on the team since being taken with the fourth overall pick in the 2013 draft. He has gone from athletic prospect to All-Pro throughout his career. Mailata's career started much differently. The Australian-born athlete had never played a down of football before the Eagles took him in the seventh-round of the 2018 draft. The former rugby star blossomed from being a project into one of the best players at his position. And going forward along the offensive line? So long as both stay healthy for the 2025 season, the Eagles have the inside track on a continuation of their dominance featuring the best of the best upfront ... with this tandem that is "unfair'' to foes. PGA Tour Makes Scottie Scheffler Announcement Before Open Championship
PGA Tour Makes Scottie Scheffler Announcement Before Open Championship originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Scottie Scheffler carded a tidy 67 in the final round of the Genesis Scottish Open at The Renaissance Club, finishing tied for eighth at 9‑under. Advertisement Despite battling gusty links conditions and not quite reaching the heights he expected, the World No. 1 still marked a major personal milestone. With this result, Scheffler has now placed inside the top 25 in each of his 15 starts this season, including an impressive run of 10 consecutive top‑10 finishes. Though Scheffler left Scotland a little underwhelmed by his own performance, the real headline came via PGA Tour on X. 'With a T8 finish at the Genesis Scottish Open, World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler has now finished inside the top 25 in all 15 starts this season, including 10 consecutive top‑10 finishes.' they posted. 'I feel like I'm really close. I feel like I was close to playing some really good golf. Just got to get some momentum. I'll get out and play a decent amount. I'll spend some time out on the course.' he said in a press conference on Sunday. That mindset will serve him well as he shifts focus to next week's Open Championship at Royal Portrush, especially since Rory McIlroy is back to his form. The World No. 2 will feel significantly confident after finishing the tournament tied second with a score of 13-under. He lost to Chris Gotterup, who became the sixth American to win the event, by two shots. Advertisement The win at North Berwick earned Gotterup a ticket to the British Open as well. PGA Tour Sends Message on Rory McIlroy at Scottish Open This Weekend
PGA Tour Sends Message on Rory McIlroy at Scottish Open This Weekend originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Scottish Open is heading into its final round this Sunday, and all eyes are on Rory McIlroy. The tournament, being held at the Renaissance Club, has shaped up for a thrilling finish with McIlroy now sitting at the top of the leaderboard, tied at 11-under with the American Chris Gotterup. Advertisement After his impressive third-round 66, the PGA Tour took notice, posting about McIlroy on social media: '54-hole co-leader @McIlroyRory goes for his 30th (!) PGA TOUR title on Sunday @ScottishOpen.' Rory McIlroy watches his ball from the tee of No. 4 Saturday at the Cognizant Classic at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens. It was a strong nod to McIlroy's dominance and his pursuit of another PGA title, which would mark his second Scottish Open win in three years. McIlroy's round included five birdies and just one bogey, with birdies on all three par-fives. This continues his streak of 11 straight rounds under 68 at the Renaissance Club. Reflecting on his form, he said per BBC Sport, 'I think I'm pretty close to being back to the level I was at going into the Masters.' McIlroy has been navigating a post-Masters lull since winning the career Grand Slam at Augusta, but he feels he's turned a corner. 'I feel like I came to this tournament with renewed enthusiasm and excitement for the rest of the year,' he added. Advertisement Sharing the top spot is Chris Gotterup, who had led by four shots going into Saturday but now finds himself tied with the Northern Irishman after a tight third round. Just two strokes behind are Matt Fitzpatrick, Marco Penge, Wyndham Clark, and Jake Knapp at 9-under. With McIlroy eyeing his 30th PGA TOUR title and Gotterup chasing a breakthrough, Sunday's final round is set for a competitive finish at the Scottish Open.
